Different ways of volunteering

There are lots of different ways you can give your time and experience in Kincardine and Mearns CAB.  Here are some of the roles on offer:

  • Advisers
  • Administrative work
  • Bureau management committee volunteers
  • Social policy volunteers – working for change
  • Fundraising
  • Promoting the CAB

Reception Duties

• Greet Clients (offer refreshments if long waiting time).

• Record client’s contact details

• Take telephone messages, pass to staff and advisers as appropriate

• Maintain leaflet displays and general tidy appearance of reception.

• Any other admin duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the bureau.

• Notify Advisers of clients waiting.

Volunteer Adviser

Responsible for:

• Interview clients – listen to the client and let the client explain the problem. Help the client to clarify the issues by exploring the problem and asking questions.

• Giving information – use AdviserNet and reference books to find out the correct information.

• Give advice – explain the information to the client and the choices that the client has, so he/she can decide what to do.

• Give practical help – for example filling in forms, doing a benefit calculation, speaking or writing to another agency on behalf of a client.

• Record cases – make a record of the client’s details so that further help can be given if a client returns to the CAB.

• Administration – help out with basic office organisation, e.g. filing case notes, amending information.

Volunteer Admin Duties

• Deal with incoming/outgoing mail

• Input information to excel spreadsheets

• Maintain records on electronic case recording system (CASTLE)

• Scan and input to CASTLE system

• Record income/expenditure

• Take telephone messages, record or pass to staff and advisers as appropriate

• Attention to detail in recording information is vital to this post.

• Cover reception duties if necessary.

• Any other admin duties as required to assist in the smooth running of the bureau.
