HK Week notes 7/11/25
Nothing like a Conference Room full of like-minded people to turn the Work Routine into a Magic Display.
The Village in Edinburgh hosted the Citizens Advice Scotland AGM- All the areas of Scotland were represented by the 58 Bureau Managers, Staff, Chairs and Trustees.
A reminder of the wealth of passion and talent that hides behind the blue doors of all the CAB’s in Scotland.
Just sitting with this wealth of talent makes my life so much easier- From solving issues at work to brilliant new ideas. All effortless as the osmosis seeps in from the buffet of talent in attendance.
One such example is being able to meet and talk to Sue- She was recognised in Trustee week and deservedly so:
“As part of TrusteesWeek, we’re celebrating Sue Beer, Trustee at Shetland Islands Citizens Advice Bureau (SICAB)
After her placement as a postgrad Information Analysis student with SICAB, she went on to write her MSc research dissertation on “The Rural Information Need of the Shetland Islands Citizens Advice Bureau.” That research sparked a passion that’s lasted for over 27 years of dedicated service as a trustee!
Her advice to anyone thinking about becoming a trustee?
“Before taking up the role of trustee it’s important that you are properly informed about what the charity you are considering joining does and what your responsibilities will be, and that you will be given the support you need to take on the role.”
Sue also reminds us that trusteeship should be inclusive for everyone:
“I have Parkinson’s Disease, but that hasn’t proved to be a barrier to my participation. My fellow trustees and the SICAB staff make sure that I can do as much as possible remotely and accommodate me when I need to attend in person.”
Thank you, Sue, for your dedication, warmth, and commitment to helping others. You truly embody the spirit of trusteeship. "
Such a great couple of days and much fuel in the tank to take back to my patch.
